ASSE International Student exchange program is seeking local families to host boys and girls between the ages of 15 to 18 from a variety of countries around the world. Students come with an ethusiasm to practice English and experoence American culture. They will also share their own culture with host families. Host families welcome these students into their family, not as a guest, but as a family member, giving both the student and families a rich cultural experience. In addition, students have pocket money for personal expenses; and full health, accident and liability insurance. Students are academically selected onto program, and host families can choose their students from a wide variety of backgrounds, countries, and personal interests. The New Life Fellowship, Topeka, IN is pleased to present Beth Moore, So Long, Insecurity on Saturday, April 24th at 10:00am until 4:00pm Live via satellite. Tickets in advance are $15.00 and at the door they are $20.00 and lunch is included. The church is located on SR 5 between Shipshewanna and Topeka. High School seniors and college students interested in pursuing a criminal justice degree are Eligible for scholarships from the Indiana Sheriffs' Association. ISA scholarships are available to Indiana Residents intending to maintain full-time enrollment at a state college or university. A membership or family connection to the Indiana Sheriffs' Association is required. Applications, due by April 1, are available from school guidance counselors or on the internet at indianasheriffs.org/scholarship.html.

Open Door Gallery is hosting Bowls for Hunger a Fundraiser for meals and wheels on Friday, March 19 from 4 to 8pm. The Open Door Gallery is located at 101 WEst Chicago Road Sturgis, MI 49091. With a helpful donation you can warm up with a bowl of soup. Choose your own bowl created and decorated by the artists of the Open Door Gallery. All proceeds will assist the Salvation Army and help Open Gallery continue to work on their studio to teach pottery classes. $15.00 for general admission and $5.00 for soup only. The Prairie Heights Spaghetti Supper and PE Extravaganza will be on Tuesday, March 16th, with the dinner starting at 5:00pm and the extravaganza beginning at 6:30pm on the PHMS cafeteria and gym. The dinner is $4.00 for adults and $2.50 for children 12 and under; the dinner will only cost $1.50 for students in extravaganza. All proceeds go to the Prairie Heights Scholarship Fund.

The Limberlost Public Library will host Master Gardener Marilyn Carunchia and she will help new gardeners get started with garden design and planning on March 15th at 6:00pm. She will explain how to get a garden ready, whether it's new or old. She'll also discuss where to place it, how to till and fertilize it and what plants to use in this zone. Registration is required by calling the Library at 854.2774.

The Lakeland High School Musical Theater will present the Broadway Musical "Thoroughly Modern Mille" on March 12, 13 & 14 in the Lakeland High School Auditorium. Show times are 7:00pm on Friday and Saturday and 2:00pm on Sunday. Tickets are available at the door prior to performances. Students and senior discounts are available for all shows.

The Prairie Heights High School Auditorium is hosting the 2010 Prom Fashion Show on Saturday, March 13th, with the doors opening at 6pm. Tickets are $5.00. This is a fundraising event for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

The Kendaville Public Library's Book sale will be open to the public on Friday, March 12 from 1:00pm until 5:00pm and on Saturday, March 13th from 9am until 1pm. There will be a lot of itesm, including fiction and non-fiction books, audio books and more.

The St. Paul Chapel, 8780 E. 700 N. Clearlake, IN, is having an All you can eat Fish Fry on Friday, March 12th from 5:00 to 7:30pm in the Chapel Community room. The cost is $7.50 for adults, $4.00 for children ages 5 through 12, and free for children 5 and under.

The Salem Township will be holding a Public Meeting on Thursday, March 11th, at 6:30pm at the Salem Center Volunteer Fire Department for the purpose of discussing a Fire Territory to include all three of the Township's Volunteer Fire departments (Salem, Helmer, and Hudson).

The Elkhart Sheriff's Department is hosting Defensive Tactics for women on March 1, 3, 8 and 10. Participation on all four nights is necessary. The classes will be from 6 to 9pm in the training room of the Elkhart County Corrections facility, 26861 Cr 26. Class size is limited, and people interested in attending this course should call the detective bureau at 535.6576 or email Detective Alber at nalber@elkhartcountysheriff.com.
