Community Events
You spoke - we listened. Many of you have great community events happening. Share them with us here - please keep a couple of rules in mind: Please be sure to give all your details, email contact and list your website to link to if you have one. This free service is made available only to those who are not purchasing advertising elsewhere. Organizations that disclose there is a charge to gain entry to their event may be required to present proof of their non-profit status (501C3 form). Airtime is limited and there is no guarantee that public service announcements will run on the radio. Remember to e-mail your information early (2-3 weeks in advance) to communityevents@wthd.net. ASSE International Student exchange program is seeking local families to host boys and girls between the ages of 15 to 18 from a variety of countries around the world. Students come with an ethusiasm to practice English and experoence American culture. They will also share their own culture with host families. Host families welcome these students into their family, not as a guest, but as a family member, giving both the student and families a rich cultural experience. In addition, students have pocket money for personal expenses; and full health, accident and liability insurance. Students are academically selected onto program, and host families can choose their students from a wide variety of backgrounds, countries, and personal interests. The Historic Whitewater Valley Railroad's Annual Training Classes will be held beginning on February 6 and the last class will be on March 27 at the South Connersville Yard Complex located at 300 South Eastern Avenue, Connersville, IN. These free classes are open to the public and do not require membership to the non-profit Whitewater Valley Railroad. Each session will begin at 9:00 a.m. each Saturday, running no later then 1:00p.m. There is a small charge ($15, subject to change without notice) for printed materials used in the course. The Animal Rescue Fund of St. Joseph County is sponsoring an All you can eat Pizza Buffet on Saturday, February 27. This event will be held at "The Country Table" located at 714 W. Chicago Rd. in White Pigeon and beginning at 4pm until 8pm. The price is $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for children.

The Kendaville Public Library is having a FREE Resume Writing Class on Monday, February 22 from 6pm until 8pm. Participants should come prepared with all the information they would like to include in their resume, including work and education history, and also bring a jump drive to save their work. The Salem Center Fire and Rescue is having a Big Breakfast on February 20 from 7 to 10am. They will be serving biscuits and gravy, french toast, and pancakes and sausage. They are located at 8404 W 500 S Hudson, IN 46747.

The Girl Scouts of LaGrange County is having Tea Tasting on February 20 at the First Church of God on Detroit Street. The public is welcome from 11 until 1. Girls and families will get a taste of other countries that are in WAGGS (the World of Association of Girl Scouts). The Town & Country Riders is having its 17th Annual Tack Sale on February 20, from 10am until 2pm at Mendon High School, located at 26393 Kirby Rd., Mendon, MI. The public is welcome to bring new and used horse equipment to sell or swap. Food and baked goods will be available. To support Breast Cancer Awareness, Angola High School, Tri-State Gymnastics Teams, and Southern Michigan Gymnastics Proudly Presents Stick It For a Cure on Thursday, February 18 at Angola Central Gym during the Angola vs. Coldwater Gymnastics meet. There will be a silent auction beginning at 5:45pm and the meet will begin at 6:30pm. All proceeds will go to the Steuben County Cancer Association.

The Purdue Extension Service-Steuben County will be offering a Retail Food Safety Re-Certification class on Wednesday, February 17. The educational presentation will begin at 8am and conclude at noon. The test will follow at 12:30pm. The cost of the class is $60.00 which will include the review and exam. a $40.00 book may be purchased separately as an optional additional resource. The Limberlost Public Library is offering Two movie Matinees for adults. On Wednesday, February 3 at 12:00pm, movie goers will get a close look at the life of Legend Ameila Earnhart during the Adult Lunch Matinee featuring the movie Ameila. Then on Wednesday, February 17 at 12:00pm, The Time Travler's Wife, based on the book by the same name, follows the life of a woman whose husband continually disappears to travel through time. Registration is requested for each adult Lunch Matinee. Please bring a sack lunch to enjoy during the films.

The Lenawee County Fairgrounds is hosting a Motorcycle Swapmeet on Sunday, February 14 from 11:00am until 4:00pm. Admission is $5.00, kids 12 and under are free. To reserve your spot, money must be paid in advance. Wall space is $30.00, floor space is $20.00, and for a single bike it will $10.00. The Fremont American Legion Post 257 is having a Valentines Day Dinner and Dance on February 13. A Steak Dinner will be served from 5 to 7:30pm, and the dance will be from 8 to 12. The Dance is featuring "Big D and the Penetrators". The Dinner and Dance will cost $25 per couple, and $12.50 for singles. The Dinner only is $10.00 per person, and the Dance only is $5.00 per person. The public is welcome! All proceeds will go to the Fremont Post 257 Building Fund.
