Family night at SturgisFest tonight

STURGIS – Tonight is Family Night for the 2019 Sturgis Fest Celebration, and there will be activities for everyone of all ages.

Most events will be going on in Franks Park. Sturgis Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Faith Gardner says there will be inflatables in the park, manned by volunteers from Omni Community Credit Union. Glen Oaks Community College will be in charge of the food booth.

The Youth Advisory Councill will be in charge of face painting and the family movie at Franks Park, “Incredibles 2:, starting at 7:30 PM. YAC is also organizing a teen dance from 9 to 11 PM at the Chamber of Commerce parking lot.

Other family night events include the ReMax hot air balloon rides, and the dog fest dog show.

Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cathi Abbs says the vintage baseball game is back for 2019, featuring the Sturgis Biscuits. She says Sam Watson has taken over this event and it remains a fun time for everyone.

During Tuesday's Sturgis Fest activities, the winners of the Open Door Gallery Poster Contest were announced. In the Pre-K to 5th grade category, the winner is Izabella Chanocua. In the 6th to 12th grade category, the winner in Hannah Heitger, while the winner in the 18 and over category is Mary Lou Falkenstein. Mary Lou's creation was selected to be on the cover of the 2020 Sturgis Fest booklet.

Each winner receives $50.
