Sturgis City Commission Approves 2020-21 Budget

(STURGIS) – The City of Sturgis has their budget for fiscal year 2020-21.

Wednesday night, the Sturgis City Commission held a public hearing on the proposed budget during their ZOOM meeting. City Manager Mike Hughes presented the budget, saying that COVID-19 was a factor as they were putting it together. Hughes says Sturgis will continue to deal with the coronavirus and its effects for the next couple of years.

Hughes shared how the City's General Fund is projected to look in the new budget year. ...... {LISTEN}.

Hughes says that Sturgis will see a 5 percent decrease in revenue sharing for the upcoming year, which means the City will be getting $997,000. In addition, he said that 27 percent of the General Fund comes from property taxes in the City.

Hughes also gives the General Fund expenditures for the 2020-21 budget year. ...... {LISTEN}.

Overall for the budget, the City has Revenues of just over $50.4 million and Expenditures of just over $48.8 million.

Commissioners approved the budget by a unanimous vote.
