Michigan To Re-Open High Schools And Some Businesses

(LANSING) – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has updated and extended their epidemic order.

During a Friday afternoon media briefing, Governor Gretchen Whitmer shared the new epidemic order will be in effect from Monday, December 21 and will last until Friday, January 15. As part of this new order, Whitmer says high schools across Michigan would be allowed to have in person instruction. ...... {LISTEN}.

Whitmer says colleges and universities would be able to have students return for in person classes as well. She says she is asking them to not have students move back until January 16 and start face to face learning on January 19. Whitmer says the majority have agreed to that.

The new epidemic order would also allow for some indoor businesses to re-open according to Whitmer. ...... {LISTEN}.

The epidemic order does not allow restaurants or bars to offer dine in meals. They can continue to offer outdoor dining, carry out and delivery.

Whitmer says if the State continues to see numbers going down, they would consider lifting more of these restrictions before January 15.
