Leonidas Man Arrested Following Two County Pursuit

(UNDATED) – A 27 year old Leonidas man was arrested following a chase through two counties.

Sturgis Director of Public Safety Ryan Banaszak says the suspect was in the 1200 block of Laura Drive around 4 AM Sunday, and fled from Sturgis Police when officers confirmed the vehicle was stolen.

The pursuit went into Branch County, where the driver lost control of the automobile and crashed it. The suspect then ran away through a field. Sturgis K-9 Officer Tucky tracked the suspect, and officers were able to apprehend him.

The suspect was treated for his injuries and then transported to the St. Joseph County Jail. He is being held on multiple charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, possession of a firearm by a felon, fleeing and eluding and resisting and obstructing.

Assisting Sturgis Police were the Bronson Police Department, the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department and the Michigan State Police.
