(INDIANAPOLIS) – Two top state officials in Indiana are at odds.

Lawyers for Governor Eric Holcomb are deriding the claims by Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita that he can block the governor from asking the courts to stop a new law, giving legislators more authority to intervene during public emergencies.

Holcomb's lawyers argue in a court filing that Rokita is making “absurd” arguments that he alone has the authority to represent the State in court and to decide whether the new law is constitutional.

The dispute between the two Republicans stems from a lawsuit filed by Holcomb. The Governor claims that a law passed earlier this year by GOP lawmakers, and originally vetoed by Holcomb, is unconstitutional because it gives legislators the authority to call themselves into a special legislative session during emergencies declared by the sitting governor.
