(ELKHART) – Authorities say one person is dead in a domestic battery investigation in the City of Elkhart.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office was called to the 23,000 block of Florence Avenue just before 8 AM Thursday for a domestic battery involving weapons. When deputies arrived they found a 35 year old man unconscious. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman was also at the house. She had lacerations and was taken from the scene and airlifted to a hospital for further treatment.

The Elkhart County Homicide Unit is investigating the situation.
