(PORTER TOWNSHIP) – An Edwardsburg man was injured in a motorcycle accident Thursday in Cass County's Porter Township.

The Cass County Sheriff's Department says 53 year Todd Vankirk was driving north on Sunset Boulevard near U.S. 12 at 6:15 PM when an animal ran out in front of him. He swerved to miss the animal, crossed the median and went off the west side of the road and struck a guard rail.

Vankirk was taken to Elkhart General Hospital to be treated for his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Assisting deputies at the scene were the Porter Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police and the SEPSA Ambulance Service.
