(UNDATED) – A picture that appeared over the weekend of Gretchen Whitmer violating Michigan's COVID-19 order has prompted a response from the Governor.

The picture shows Whitmer not wearing a mask, seated at a table in a restaurant with 12 other people, who are also not wearing masks. The photo was shown by Breitbart News.

Whitmer issued a written statement, saying the picture was taken on Saturday.

In that statement, Whitmer says she has been committed to following all public health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. She says on Saturday she went out with friends to a local restaurant. More people arrived, and tables were pushed together.

Whitmer says everyone in the picture has been vaccinated, and they didn't think about putting on masks. She says in hindsight, she should have thought about it. Whitmer says she is human, and made a mistake, and apologizes.

Michigan's current epidemic State health order says the current capacity of people sitting together at a table in a restaurant is six, and it also calls for groups to be six feet apart.
