Suspect Arrested In Stolen Vehicle Investigation

(SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP) – A suspect in in custody in an alleged stolen vehicle investigation.

The Branch County Sheriff's Department says deputies were called at 10:15 AM Wednesday to Oliverda and Arney Roads. They were told a small passenger car failed to stop at a stop sign and went into a yard.

Deputies arrived and found there were no witnesses. Further investigation determined the vehicle was reported stolen out of Kalamazoo County that morning and struck a Portage Police car just before 9 AM. The driver, a 29 year old Kalamazoo man, was able to get away from authorities in Portage.

Deputies called for K-9 Officer Chaos who tracked the suspect. The driver was seen at 1 PM and a chase started. The suspect was finally found near the St. Joseph River.

Officers determined the suspect was wanted on felony warrants out of Kalamazoo County. Additional charges are also being sought from the Branch County Prosecutor and the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor.

Assisting with the search were the Michigan State Police.
