(STURGIS) – The City of Sturgis Electric Department is continuing to address outages from the storms that moved through Wednesday and again Thursday.

City officials say that Sturgis crews have been joined by mutual aid assistance to help address the immense damage to the electric system.

Crews are anticipating that work to restore power in the Sturgis city limits may continue for some customers through the weekend. Customers north of the city can expect significantly longer time frames until their service is restored.

Damage to the electric system, particularly in areas outside of town, is unprecedented because of the extensive amount of damage from downed trees and broken power poles.

Customers with new outage issues are asked to continue to utilize the 24 hour outage line at 269-659-7255. For issues with downed City trees or tree limbs that are obstructing roads, please continue to contact the Department of Public Services at 269-651-2879.

City officials are asking for the public's continued understanding and patience as crews and mutual aid assistance work hard to restore service as quickly as they can. The City will continue to provide updates through the local media, the City's Facebook page and the Nixle alert system.
