Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Deputy Dies From Gun Shot Wound

(KALAMAZOO) – A Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Deputy with ties to St. Joseph County was shot and killed in the line of duty.

According to WWMT, Deputy Ryan Proxmire was shot while pursuing a suspect during a high speed chase that started Saturday night near Galesburg. The suspect continued on and later ran off the road in Climax Township. He started shooting at deputies again, who returned fire and killed the suspect.

Proxmire was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital where he died on Sunday.

Proxmire was a graduate of Three Rivers High School with the Class of 1999. He had worked with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department Jail Division before moving to the road patrol. Proxmire had provided field, stun gun and subject control/defensive tactics training to other officers during his career.
