(ELKHART COUNTY) – Two people received injuries when a van struck an ambulance.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office says 73 year old Moses Hochstetler of Nappanee was stopped in the northbound lane of State Road 19 at the intersection of County Road 28 at 2:40 PM Thursday, waiting to turn left.

An ambulance, driven by 43 year old Joel Wilkins of Goshen, was traveling north on State Road 19 in emergency mode, attempting to pass Hochstetler on the left. Hochstetler turned left into the ambulance.

Wilkins continued to Elkhart General Hospital with his patient. 57 year old Sandra Witt of Nappanee complained of back pain. A passenger in the Hochstetler vehicle, 47 year old Jennifer Newcomer of Nappanee, was taken to Goshen Hospital to receive treatment for ankle pain.

Hochstetler was given a ticket for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle causing injury.
