Mishawaka Woman Arrested Following Pursuit In Sturgis

(STURGIS) – A Mishawaka, Indiana woman is in custody following a brief chase in the City of Sturgis.

Sturgis Police were contacted just before 3:30 PM Friday by St. Joseph County Central Dispatch about a vehicle driving erratically on U.S. 12, coming into the city limits. Sturgis Police located the vehicle and witnessed several traffic violations.

Officers stopped the automobile in a business parking lot in the 400 block of South Centreville Road. As they approached the vehicle to make contact with the driver, she drove off and led police on a short pursuit, which ended in the area of West South Street and South Nottawa Street. After a brief struggle, the driver was taken into custody.

The woman was arrested on multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding and felony operating while intoxicated. Sturgis Police discovered this was the 8th time the woman had been arrested for operating while intoxicated.

She is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail without bond, pending her arraignment.

Sturgis Police were assisted by the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office.
