(STURGIS) – A suspect has been arrested and evidence found following an investigation into fraudulent checks and ID's being made.

Sturgis Deputy Director of Public Safety Damon Knapp says on January 13, the Sturgis Police Department executed a search warrant in the 400 block of East Congress Street. The search was the culmination of a multi-day investigation into a string of fraudulent checks being cashed across several counties.

During the search of the residence, officers located several items consistent with the production of fake checks and identification cards.

A suspect in the case had been arrested January 12 by Sturgis Police on multiple warrants for similar charges. Additional charges will be requested through the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office.
