Monday, December 10, 2018

LAGRANGE – The LaGrange County Council’s last meeting of the year lasted just 15 minutes.

Council members said goodbye to fellow member George Bachman, whose term is ending. Auditor Kay Myers also is nearing the end of her term. And County Surveyor Rex Pranger is retiring at the end of the year.

Councilmen Steve McKowen and Jeff Brill were among those praising the three long-time office holders.

"I think we are very lucky to have folks that step into positions in our county that aren't there necessarily for financial gain. They're there for the county and they're there to really support what happens to the county," said McKowen.

Brill followed that sentiment with, "I don't think there are three people more dedicated to the county."

In other business the council approved a salary ordinance amendment for the assessor’s office, which is eliminating one of 2 part time positions and increasing hours for the other.

County Engineer Sarah Farlow updated council on construction of the justice building.

The council approved transfers in the budget that included more than $518-thousand dollars from cumulative capital development. Most of that will go to purchase a new computer assisted dispatching system for public safety.
