GARRETT – A Garrett teen who was the subject of a Statewide Silver Alert was found safe last night in Hamilton County, Tennessee.

Shayden Howard’s parents reported him missing to the Garrett Police Department May 6th. Following several days of investigation by the Garrett Police and Indiana State Police Detective Jake Quick, a Silver Alert was issued last Thursday.

Additional information led investigators to believe Howard might be in the company of 36 year old Larry Taylor from Garrett, Indiana although their whereabouts were still unknown.

Last night, officers in Hamilton County, Tennessee arrested Taylor on a charge of Public Intoxication and were unable to positively identify Howard. Prosecutor officials from Tennessee contacted the DeKalb County Prosecutor's Office and while inquiring about Taylor's criminal history, they learned about the Silver Alert and from that information, were able to verify Howard's identity.

According to Quick, an arrest warrant was issued in DeKalb County on a preliminary charge of Kidnapping, a Level 6 Felony with the potential of additional charges. Extradition procedures are underway in an attempt to bring Taylor back to DeKalb County.
