(UNDATED) - Figures released Monday by Indiana Workforce Development showed the unemployment rates around northeast Indiana have dropped by at least two percent over the last year. Steuben County had the highest jobless rate in the region at 6.3 percent which is down from seven percent in February and 8.4 percent in March of 2013. Jobless rates also went down in neighboring counties. Noble County was at 5.9 percent, DeKalb County was at 5.7 percent and LaGrange County had the lowest rate in the region at five percent. Steuben County's labor force went up to 16,843 in March with 15,784 workers employed. Those who were unemployed went down by 114 to 1,059. The number of people working increased by almost 200 from February. The statewide unemployment rate went down to 5.9 percent in March. It has not been that low since July of 2008.
