Sturgis, MI

By: Mike Stiles

(STURGIS) – The City of Sturgis is doing well financially.

During a recent meeting, the City Commission heard the annual audit report for fiscal year 2013 from Mike Wilson, a CPA with Norman and Paulsen.

Wilson updated the Commission about the City's General Fund. ...... {LISTEN}.

Wilson says the General Fund generated revenues for the City last year. ...... {LISTEN}.

The major expenditure under the General Fund is for public safety, which includes police, fire and zoning along with some other items. Last year that totaled approximately four million dollars.

Wilson told the Commissioners that the dedicated street millage has collected $700,000 since last summer. He says since it is a dedicated millage it must stand alone and can not be mixed in with the general fund.

Wilson says his office offered a Clean Opinion regarding Sturgis' finances. That is the highest opinion that can be given.
