(BUTLER) - Two men were injured Thursday morning on State Road 1 south of Butler when their vehicles collided head on. The DeKalb County Sheriffs Department says a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 19-year-old Zachari Hall of Antwerp, Ohio went left of center at about 5:15am and into the path of a 2007 Ford F-150 which was driven by 25-year-old Randy Kaiser of Butler. According to a Sheriffs Department news release, Hall told investigators that he swerved to avoid hitting a deer. Kaiser said he noticed Hall in his lane of travel and swerved to avoid hitting him but he was unable to avoid the contact. Kaiser's vehicle went off the road after the collision and rolled over before coming to rest on the passenger side. Hall was taken to an Ohio hospital for treatment of neck and head pain. Kaiser was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital after he suffered fractures to his vertebrae and sternum. Assisting the Sheriffs Department were Butler Police and Firefighters along with the Southeast Fire Department and DeKalb County E.M.S.. Both of the vehicles were called a total loss.
