Traffic stop in Sturgis leads to drug, gun charges

STURGIS - A Traverse City man faces drug and gun charges following an incident in Sturgis early this morning.
Sturgis Police stopped a vehicle in the vicinity of East West Street and Arden Park for an equipment violation. The front seat passenger had an open alcoholic beverage. When the officer asked him to step out of the car he took off running.
The 33-year-old man was captured following a short chase and officers allegedly found crystal meth in his possession. He also tossed a handgun during the chase which police recovered and learned it was stolen from a Sturgis residence.
Police jailed the man on numerous drug and weapon charges. He’s also wanted on warrants from Grand Traverse County and Sturgis. He’s held without bond pending a court appearance.
