(SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP) – One man is dead and another injured in a Thursday night accident.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph Underwood says his department responded to a 911 call at a house in the 30,000 block of Middle Crossing Road in Sliver Creek Township at 6:35 PM Thursday for a person who may have been electrocuted.
Deputies arrived and found two subjects in the back yard of the residence. One was unconscious and the other was doing CPR. Deputies took over doing CPR until the Pride Care Ambulance arrived.
Deputies were able to determine that Timothy Curtis and his son Jonathon along with a juvenile were attempting to install a metal TV tower when that tower touched some overhead power lines. Both Timothy and Jonathon were knocked unconscious by the electrical shock. The juvenile was not injured and called 911.
Jonathon told deputies he regained consciousness and started CPR on his father under the direction of 911 dispatchers.
Timothy Curtis was not able to be revived by first responders and was pronounced dead at the scene. Jonathon Curtis was taken to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac and then later transferred to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo where he is in stable condition.
Also assisting deputies at the scene were the Indian Lake Fire Department, and the Dowagiac and Pokagon Tribal Police Departments. The matter remains under investigation.
