(CENTREVILLE) – Glen Oaks Community College is mourning the loss of a long time instructor and coach.
Ken Schuler passed away Sunday at the age of 76. He came to Glen Oaks in 1967, when he was hired to be an instructor of physical education. Because Glen Oaks had just recently opened their doors, Schuler developed the physical education program, created the education curriculum and implemented the physical fitness center.
Schuler also coached several sports, but is probably best known as the men's basketball coach. He ended his career with 408 victories and in 1996 was named to the Michigan Hall Of Fame for coaching men's basketball. In addition to being a teacher and coach, Schuler will also be remembered for the countless number of people he positively influenced.
A special celebration of Ken's life is set to take place this Saturday, June 14 in the Glen Oaks Community College Gymnasium starting at 2 PM. Memorials may be donated to the Glen Oaks Athletic Department in Schuler's name or to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
