(STURGIS) – The 2014-15 School Year budget is the big ticket item for today's Sturgis Board of Education meeting.
During last week's meeting, Business Manager Vicki Watson shared the proposed budget to the Board. The projected revenues for 2014-15 are $28.878 million, which is an increase of just over $155,00 from the just completed school year. Expenditures for the next school year are projected for $29.858 million dollars, which is a drop of $114,800 from the 2013-14 school year.
Watson says forecasting into the future continues to be very important because of what is being done at the State level in terms of the per pupil foundation allowance. She says Sturgis continues to take a conservative approach when it comes to budgeting so that the District won't be caught off guard.
Following the budget hearing, the Board will meet in regular session and be asked to approve the budget. Other items on the agenda include the approval of contracts for food service workers and the hiring of two new staff members.
Today's budget hearing starts at 11:45 AM in the Board Room of the Sturgis Central Commons. The public is welcome to attend.
