(COLDWATER) - The Branch County Sheriff's Department has declared a jail overcrowding emergency as the inmate population has exceeded its rated design capacity of 142 for over 13 straight days. This is the third time this year that Sheriff John Pollack has declared an overcrowding state of emergency. The others were in February and April. A jail overcrowding certification was sent out last Wednesday meaning that the jail was over capacity for seven straight days.
The Sheriffs Department will send over a list of prisoners who are eligible for release to the Branch County Circuit Court who will have up to two weeks to determine who might be released early.
