Sturgis School Board Approves 2014-15 Budget

Sturgis, MI

By: Mike Stiles

(STURGIS) – The Sturgis School District now has a budget for the 2014-2015 school year.

During a budget hearing Monday morning, Sturgis Schools Business Manager Vicki Watson presented the proposed budget to the Board of Education. There were no changes from when she presented it during last week's regular meeting and no one from the public spoke either for or against the budget.

The 2014-15 budget is projecting revenues at $28.8 million, which is up just over $155,000 from the 2013-14 school year budget. Watson says the majority of the revenue comes from the State of Michigan in the per pupil foundation allowance, which is up by 3.7 percent from 2013-14 funding.

Watson did go over the break down of the property tax levies that would be used to make up the local revenue for the budget. ...... {LISTEN}.

Expenditures for the 2014-15 school year are projected to be at $29.8 million dollars. That's approximately $115,000 less than the 2013-14 school year.

The Board of Education unanimously approved the budget and congratulated Watson and the Budget Committee for their hard work in getting the budget done.
