LAGRANGE – A survey team from the National Weather Service says it was a small tornado that slammed LaGrange early Tuesday morning.
Meteorologists surveyed the damage Tuesday afternoon and say the damage indicated an E-F-1 tornado with winds estimated at 95 miles per hour.
It touched down along U-S 20 just west of town around 1:30 a-m and uprooted and snapped off trees as it entered town just south of the hospital. On South Townline Road a garage was blown off its foundation and destroyed.
More tree damage occurred between U-S 20 and Grant Street along with minor structural damage to homes. The tornado lifted just to the west of S. Mountain Street.
The Weather Service team said this tornado was embedded along the north flank of a one-mile wide area of intense damaging winds that reached 70-80 mph along and south of U-S 20 in LaGrange.
