(UNDATED) - NIPSCO says all of their customers including those in Angola are expected to be back on line by 10:00pm Thursday night following the Tuesday morning severe storms. According to the utility's web site, less than 12,000 customers system wide were without power as of 1:00pm on Thursday. That includes nearly 2,200 customers in the Goshen area. Also still out were 154 customers in Angola, 127 in Shipshewana, 331 in Middlebury, 159 in LaGrange, 35 in Rome City and 21 in Howe.
NIPSCO says crews have worked around-the-clock to restore power to the 128,000 customers who were affected by the storm. They say the extensive damage included more than 130 broken distribution poles, tree damage and 580 reports of downed wires.
While the projected full restoration time is 10:00pm Thursday, NIPSCO says individual customer outages may take longer than projected due to the extensive storm damage and repairs required to safely restore service.
The utility has also gotten reports of NIPSCO impersonators attempting to enter customer homes. Employees or contracted resources do not need to enter homes for the storm restoration work. If you are suspicious or concerned, call your nearest law enforcement agency.
