(DEKALB COUNTY) - Two drivers escaped serious injuries on Sunday afternoon when their vehicles collided on I-69 near Auburn. The DeKalb County Sheriffs Department says the accident happened just before 5:00pm when a car driven by 75-year-old Rena French of Fort Wayne tried to make an illegal U-turn into northbound traffic just south of the 326 exit. As she tried to make the turn, police say French came to a complete stop in the left lane of the southbound side while she waited for traffic to clear on the northbound side. 23-year-old Bradley Fouch of Dewitt, Michigan, did not realize French came to a complete stop until it was to late to avoid hitting the back of French's car.
Both drivers complained of minor injuries and were cleared by medics at the scene. I-69 was shut down for a half hour so that the vehicles could be removed.
The Sheriffs Department got assistance from Auburn firefighters and DeKalb E.M.S..
