Safety Town Project Moving Along
Monday Jul 07, 2014 9:58am
Sturgis, MI

By: Mike Stiles

(STURGIS) – The Safety Town project is moving along and will be ready for it's first classes later this summer.

Safety Town is a miniature version of Sturgis that is being constructed at Wall School. The idea came from a community in Ohio and it's purpose is to teach young children getting ready to start school about such items as school bus safety, where to cross the street and what to do if you see a downed power line.

Sturgis Public Schools Resource Officer Damon Knapp says most of the work on the Safety Town buildings has been done by Sturgis High School students. ...... {LISTEN}.

Knapp says they plan to hold their first Safety Town classes in August. ...... {LISTEN}.

Since this is a pilot program, the classes will be limited to the first 50 children who sign up. If you would like more information on the classes or would like to sign up your child, you can go to their Facebook page at Sturgis Safety Town, or their web site by going here. Click Here.
