ELKHART - High speed likely played a part in a crash that seriously injured an Elkhart man Sunday evening.
An Elkhart County Sheriff’s deputy was attempting to stop a vehicle on County Road 6 north of Elkhart when he spotted a red motorcycle headed the opposite direction. The deputy’s radar clocked the cycle at 97 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.
By the time the deputy got turned around 33-year-old Michael Nunoz had already collided with the rear of a car that had stopped for the red light at County Road 6 and 13.
Nunoz was thrown from the cycle and suffered serious injuries. He was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
The driver of the car was not injured.
The crash happened at 7:45 p-m and remains under investigation.
