(STURGIS) – A pair of familiar faces will be taking on new duties when the 2014-2015 school year starts.
During Monday's meeting the Sturgis Board of Education approved the hiring of Ray Sterling as the new Business Manager for the District. He will be taking over for Vicki Watson, who will retire later this summer after serving the District for 18 years.
Sterling recently resigned from the School Board when he was offered the position, creating an opening that the Board is looking to fill. School Board member Geoff Smith will become the Board Vice President, a position Sterling held.
Sterling will be going to Lansing for some training for his new position in the next few weeks.
In other business, the Board approved hiring Nick Herblet as the new principal for Congress and Wenzel Elementary Schools. For the last three years, Herblet has been the Assistant Principal at Sturgis High School.
Herblet says he has a lot to learn about what has been happening at the two schools and the direction they are heading, but he's confident the staff will be able to help him get adjusted to his new position.
In other business, the School Board approved the hiring of several new teachers for the upcoming school year. Zach Goodman will be the manufacturing technology teacher. Jodi Fowler and Eden Alvey will both teach fourth grade while Jerrod Warner, Nathan Schwartz and Melissa Brunt will teach fifth grade.
