(ANGOLA) - A man surrendered Tuesday afternoon after holding a clerk hostage at an adult bookstore north of Coldwater for over three hours. This after the suspect allegedly robbed an Angola pharmacy of medications and led police on a high speed chase through Steuben and Branch Counties.
Angola Police Detective Tim Crooks says the man went into the C.V.S. Pharmacy on North Wayne at about 9:40am and said he had a firearm as he demanded prescription medication. As Angola Police were heading to the reported armed robbery, they saw the suspects vehicle on North Wayne at Mill Street.
The Steuben County Sheriffs Department, the Indiana State Police and Fremont Police joined the pursuit which eventually went west on U.S. 20 to I-69. It then headed north into Branch County and ended when the suspect exited at Jonesville Road which is the 16 mile marker in Michigan. He then went into the nearby Lions Den Adult Book Store.
Michigan State Police Tactical Response Units and a 9-1-1 dispatcher negotiated with the suspect and State Police say he surrendered at about 1:30pm. He was being held in Branch County on Tuesday afternoon. The woman held hostage was not injured.
At one point, the Community Health Center of Branch County and Baker College in Coldwater were under a lockdown. It was later lifted.
No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
