Steuben Becomes 10th Indiana County To Report West Nile

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana State Department of Health says there has been a positive test for mosquitoes with the West Nile virus in Steuben County. Department spokesman Ken Stiverson says the results came back from a batch collected at the Angola Wastewater Treatment Plant on July 9th. Stiverson says there have been 13 positive pools of mosquitoes in Indiana totaling 10 counties. That includes two positive pools recently found in DeKalb County. No human cases of West Nile Virus have been reported in Indiana.
State and local health officials are suggesting that you take preventive measures to avoid mosquito bites such as wearing long sleeve shirts and pants, use mosquito repellent with DEET, repair broken screens in your home and dispose of standing water on your property.
