Sturgis Street Projects Still Set For 2014

(STURGIS) – Several street projects are still slated to be done this year around Sturgis.

City Staff says crews are expected to start road work on North Franks Avenue from East Chicago Road to the Doyle Community Center the week of August 18. The project is being supported with funding from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality's Scrap Tire Grant, as the roadway will be made up in part by recycled tires.

This project was delayed due to the contractor's schedule.

Also set to begin the week of August 18 is the North Centreville Road project, which will span from West Chicago Road to the railroad tracks. Michigan Southern Railroad is also expected to repair the railroad crossing on North Centreville during the construction project.

There are also multiple milling and resurfacing projects still on the calendar for the 2014 street season. Starting in late August or early
September additional streets designated for improvements will include South Lakeview from Mechanic to south of Merribe Street; East Hatch from North Lakeview to North Franks and South Clay from Chicago Road to West South Street.

City staff say West Congress from South Clay to South Nottawa will also be worked on. It will be a short term fix until a full reconstruction of that part of West Congress can take place in 2015.

All time frames listed depend on several factors including contractor schedules, weather and other unforeseen events. They do represent the best current estimate of when work will happen.
