(BRISTOL) - A four vehicle chain reaction crash on the Toll Road Wednesday afternoon near Bristol injured one person and slowed traffic in the area. Indiana State Police says the accident on the west bound side happened shortly before 4:00pm near the County Road 17 exit.
Initial reports indicate that the driver of a semi-tractor trailer side swiped another tractor trailer as the driver was attempting to pull to the shoulder. The impact caused the semi-tractor trailer to catch fire and veer off the road and into a ditch. Another semi-tractor trailer that was following behind slowed down in an attempt to avoid the wreckage but it was rear-ended by another vehicle pulling a camper. A female passenger in that vehicle had to be freed by firefighters before being taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
Travel was restricted for almost three hours due to the wreckage.
