LAGRANGE – A coalition of organizations want LaGrange County third graders to begin thinking about life after high school right now.

The LaGrange County Promise is taking a three pronged approach to accomplishing that goal according to Keith Gillenwater of the LaGrange County Economic Development Corporation.

"It gets kids starting to think about what they want to be when they grow up. All three public schools Westview, Prairie Heights and Lakeland, they've done some curriculum additions to it. We're doing registrations for the 529 Direct Savings accounts."

This will all culminate in our Walk On Campus. The kids from LaGrange County will all be going over to Trine University and learning a little more about what it takes to go to college according to Gillenwater.

Gillewater says the idea sprang from a similar program in Wabash County.

August 31st is the deadline for parents to open one of those college savings accounts for children in grades kindergarten through 3 and qualify for a $25 match from Parkview Health.
