INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Lt. Governor Sue Ellsperman presented Shipshewana’s Mel Riegsecker with a Hoosier Hospitality Award.

The ceremony took place Friday during the Indiana State Fair.

The award, which honors outstanding contributions to the tourism industry in the Hoosier state, went to eighteen recipients.

Riegsecker, who is 72, founded the Riegsecker Marketplace and today over one million guests visit each year. He continues to be a driving force for the town of Shipshewana when it comes to tourism and his direction to over 400 employees of providing top-shelf Hoosier Hospitality has a positive impact on the community according to Ellsperman.

Also receiving the award Friday were Sara Hobson of the Noble County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and Kathy Miller of Amish Acres in Elkhart County.
