(CENTREVILLE) – A sentence has been handed down against Andy Brown.

The 37 year old Portage man was found guilty in July of second degree murder in the October 2, 2013 shooting death of David Locey. The sentencing took place Friday morning in St. Joseph County Circuit Court.

Prior to the sentence being announced, Brown was given an opportunity to speak to the Court. Brown offered his sympathies to Locey's family and again stated he was innocent of David's murder and has done everything he could to prove he did not kill Locey.

Brown says while's he has made mistakes in the past, he has paid for those and was a good man and a loving person.

Also speaking to the court was Locey's son Jeff spoke for the family, saying simply he missed his father, and it hasn't gotten easier for him. Locey went on to say that both his father and Brown affected people, but in different ways. While David Locey was also availableto help or listen to someone and try to build them up, he said Brown was just the opposite and didn't care for anyone but himself.

Circuit Court Judge Paul Stutesman sentenced Brown to 37 and a half to 75 years on the second degree murder charge.

Brown was also given a sentence of two years on the felony firearms charge, with credit for 316 days already served.

Following the sentencing, Brown's wife Heather spoke to the media. She said that Andy Brown was innocent and that he didn't get a fair trial in St. Joseph County. Heather Brown says the appeals process has been started and they will get her husband another trial.

Brown's mother Teresa also spoke, saying her son is innocent and they will do everything they can to prove that.

Brown was originally arrested on a charge of embezzlement, but that charge was dropped and the charges of first degree murder and felony firearms were filed.
