(CORUNNA) - A collision involving a car and a semi on U.S. 6 in Corunna sent a 67-year-old Butler woman to the hospital on Tuesday morning. The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened at about 3:16am.
They say Percilla Ruble was driving a 2004 red Chevrolet Cavalier westbound when she drove left of center and into the path of a semi being driven by 48-year-old Keith Sparkman of Garrett. He told officers that he saw the Ruble vehicle enter his lane of travel and swerved to avoid the collision.
The semi left the road but the car struck the trailer being hauled by the semi causing both rear axles to completely detach from the trailer. Ruble was pinned in the vehicle when first responders arrived. She was extricated by the Corunna Fire Department and was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center where she was listed in stable condition.
The medical staff told the Sheriff's Department that she suffered several rib fractures and a broken wrist. The accident is still under investigation. The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Waterloo Police Department, Corunna firefighters, Dekalb County E.M.S. and Parkview Samaritan.
