(STURGIS) – The 2014-2015 school year starts today in Sturgis and for other school districts around Michigan.
Sturgis Superintendent Tom Langdon wants to remind adults to be careful as school buses will be out on the road, and to also keep an eye out if you drive by schools for students getting on and off buses and possibly darting in between vehicles. In addition, Langdon says students should also be aware of their surroundings as they walk to school and when getting on and off school buses.
Each school year there's always some changes from the previous year. For Sturgis Schools, that means new safety and security initiatives. Langdon says David Northrop will be overseeing those new procedures.
Northrop says starting this year, those safety initiatives will be handled out of the Central Commons. This will free up the building principals to deal with educational matters.
Langdon says parents were told about many of the new safety policies during the school building open houses. Langdon says the safety of the children in the Sturgis School District is their top priority.
If anyone has any questions, they can contact Langdon or Northrop, who both say they will be more than happy to discuss these changes with parents.
