(LUDINGTON) – A Coldwater man was arrested over the weekend in Ludington on criminal sexual conduct and drug possession charges.
According to the Mason County Sheriff's Department, 43 year old William Joseph Stempien of Coldwater was arraigned over the weekend on two counts of criminal sexual conduct and a charge of possession of drug analogues.
Investigators say two southern Michigan girls, ages 12 and 13, flagged down a Conservation Officer and reported they had been sexually assaulted, saying that Stempien touched them. The Conservation Officer stayed with the girls until a Deputy with the Mason County Sheriff's Department arrived and was told what happened.
A second deputy arrived on scene and located Stempien at the Scottville boat launch where he was allegedly in possession of hydrocodone pills. Stempien was then taken into custody.
Deputies say all the individuals involved were camping along the Pere Marquette River.
