(STURGIS) – The world of healthcare seems to be changing on a frequent basis.
One constant about healthcare here in Michigan is how big an economic impact it makes both at the state and local levels.
Recent information shows in Michigan there are over 570 thousand healthcare jobs, of which 225,000 are in hospitals. Salaries and wages from those jobs generates over $34 billion dollars a year.
Rob LaBarge, CEO of Sturgis Hospital says the figures for St. Joseph County are also impressive. In the County, there are 2,792 health care related jobs that generate over $100 million dollars a year.
That's money that goes towards buying groceries, houses, cars and other items, which in turn helps other businesses. In addition, those wages also generate just over $38 million in Federal, State and Local tax revenue.
The healthcare jobs in St. Joseph County are broken into two categories, direct jobs along with indirect and induced jobs.
LaBarge says Sturgis Hospital is proud to be making an economic impact not just in Sturgis but all around the County.
