(AUSTIN, TEXAS) - A former Garrett resident was one of two people killed Wednesday night in Austin, Texas when a suspected drunk driver struck a moped she was riding on. WPTA-TV and KPC News report 27-year-old Jamie Ranae West, whose maiden name was Jaime Cook, was killed. Her husband Evan was driving the moped. He was critically injured as the car plowed through the crowd during the South by Southwest Festival. Nearly two dozen people were injured. Police think the suspect was trying to avoid a drunk driving checkpoint. The driver has been charged with two counts of murder.
