(ANGOLA) - Steuben County Sheriff Tim Troyer announced on Friday that the Steuben County Merit Board has approved the hiring of Tara G. Gschwend who was sworn in Friday morning by Steuben County Clerk Shelly Herbert as a merit deputy. Troyer says Gschwend has worked for the past 18 months as a full time confinement officer with the Allen County Sheriff’s Office. She holds a bachelor’s degree with a major in criminal justice and a minor in psychology from Trine University. Gschwend will begin her duties in Steuben County on March 31st with a Field training program and she is expected to attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in July. Troyer has also announced the promotion of three Sheriffs Office employees following approval by the Merit Board. Adam Miller has been promoted to Patrol Sergeant. Miller is currently patrolling Steuben County with his K9 partner Hasko. Deputy M.J. Irwin has been promoted to Patrol Corporal while Alex Harris has been promoted to the position of Corporal in the Steuben County Jail. Gschwend is a replacement for Sgt. Phil Nott who retired in December. The promotions were the changes from that retirement.
