(COLDWATER) – Health officials say 2013 was a good year for area establishments that serve food.
The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency's Board of Health has announced their “Certificates of Excellence” in food service for the year. Awardees represent food establishments that were able to meet stringent criteria during 2013.
Specifically the facility must have had no Priority or Priority Foundation items and no more than three core items cited during their onsite inspections, which are done twice a year.
Rebecca Burns, Environmental Health Director says there were 97 food service establishments in the tri-county region that received awards this year. That includes restaurants, bars, catering kitchens and schools.
In St. Joseph County there were 32 businesses who earned the Certificates of Excellence, while in Branch County there were 27.
