(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Department of Education has announced that the Steuben County Literacy Coalition is among 53 organizations around the state that will get 21st Century Community Learning Center grants. The Literacy Coalition is getting a $250,000 grant which state officials say is designed to provide academic enrichment opportunities for students. According to a news release from the D.O.E., over $11 million is being awarded around the state this year. The 21st Century Community Learning Centers program is an afterschool initiative authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The funded programs are intended specifically to assist students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools.
