ELKHART - A police impersonator pulled over a woman near Elkhart Monday night.
The woman told the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department that a small white passenger car with a red and white flashing light pulled her over on County Road 17 at the U-S 20 bypass around 10:15 p-m.
The white male was wearing baggy blue jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and said he was stopping her for speeding.
When she asked him for police identification he produced none, so she drove away and called 9-1-1. The man left the area before police arrived.
The sheriff’s department reminds motorists that all police vehicles have red and blue flashing lights and the officer will be in uniform properly identifying themselves as a law enforcement officer. If they fail to properly identify or and there is any doubt, call 9-1-1 immediately.
