(UNDATED) - If recent statistics from state and federal sources are accurate, Indiana is now the methamphetamine lab capital of the United States. Statistics show that there were about 1,800 meth lab seizures in 2013 in Indiana. Tennessee was second with about 1,500 seizures while Missouri was third with about 1,400. Those numbers may not be accurate because experts say they can change from one month to the next. The meth problem has exploded in Indiana over the last two decades. WTHR-TV in Indianapolis says the Indiana State Police have tried to combat the problem by hiring 40 new technicians over the last five years. There have also been efforts to limit the amount of cold medications one can buy since the ingredients pseudoephedrine and ephedrine are precursor drugs used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
