(ANGOLA) - The Angola Board of Public Works and Safety is scheduled to accept the retirement of a four-legged member of the Angola Fire Department on Monday night. Accelerant Detection K-9 Deacon has worked for the department for the last 10 years but he has slowly been losing function of the legs. Deacon was diagnosed last year with an incurable and rapid degeneration of the spinal cord which will eventually lead to paralysis. It was decided by Lt. Erich Kaiser to retire Deacon at this time. Kaiser says he and Deacon have traveled throughout Steuben County as well as other counties in northeast Indiana over the last 10 years investigating scores of suspicious fires that have totaled over $3.5 million in losses. Kaiser will take care of Deacon in his retirement.
